Marissa brought Vladimir Karaleev into my world....

by The Dream Stalker
A few days, I asked Stalker Nation (the name I've decided to call all my visitors! By the way, thank you for visiting) who their favourite underground designers were, remember? Well, I got a load of responses via style page and twitter, thank you to all who sent in their suggestions.

Well one of the names that I researched and felt some what drawn to was Vladimir Karaleev, suggested by a 'friend' I met at Graduate Fashion Week, Merissa.

Why did I like Karaleev? Well, its was mainly because his work has developed over time (from 2007 till now) into some thing that I myself will be willing to try on; showing potential to be great. Plus the roughness of his pieces really appeals to my character and makes the clothes interesting.

Autumn Winter 2011/2012: Principle of Disarrangement
Here is some background information on Vladimir Karaleev:
Vladimir Karaleev (*1981) was born and raised in Sofia, Bulgaria. He moved to Berlin at the age of 19 to study fashion at the University of Applied Sciences (HTW). In 2005 he founded his own fashion label and launched his conceptual debut collection “CUT 210”.

Contemporary art has a strong influence on. Vladimir Karaleev. New shapes and experimental cuts form the center of the creations of the bulgarian designer Vladimir Karaleev, who creates extraordinary womens- and menswear. The creative handling of materials works in combination with the conceptual design. Karaleev goes against the traditional shapes and cuts and creates instead innovative silhouettes, that are strongly influenced by geometric structures. His close bond with the art scene is not only expressed through his conceptual approach but also through the presentation of his fashion.

Since 2010 Vladimir Karaleev is a guest lecturer at the MDH “University of Applied Sciences”. In July 2010 Vladimir Karaleev won the third prize of the fashion contest “Start your Fashion Business”. His collection showcases a pure- avant-garde style, with unusual cuts and refreshing independence. The jury complimented him by saying “Vladimir Karaleev defines the classic Couture new”

Designer Talk: I have a thing for Swedes!

by The Dream Stalker

A few months ago, I took to twitter to make a little promise to any Swedish readers, that I would do a little something for you guys (Yes, I see you lot and I love the support! Thank you), unfortunately, my original plan which will remain under wraps, didn't work out so I thought up another one, typical of a little genius! *laughs*

Have you ever heard of Jenny Grettve?
I'm guessing that unless you follow Swedish fashion or music, you are probably clueless as to who or what that is! And it is to [the clueless] and the fans that I write this post for (couldn't I just have said everyone?)
Even though, I say this was plan B, it was always an original on its own.

Jenny Grettve aka JG, as I have abbreviated it, because I'm a teenager and we are too lazy to say our words in full, is a mother of three, Swedish designer as well as a musician (GENRE: House and Techno) who has a brand of the same name, which was established in 2010.

When I found out about Swedish designers, yes, I was once ignorant, I started researching and found a few that were interesting *watch this space* JG was one of the many, I am not extremely familiar with, so I thought I'd present all who are interested in Swedes, an in depth cover of JG! Therefore, I present to you, Jenny Grettve in collaboration with lostintalent: the talk.

Her Fashion Beginnings
I have a master in architecture and worked as an architect for a while. But I had always dreamt of working with fashion and studied pattern making while I was home with my first child. I realized fashion was something that was perfect for me and the way I wanted to express myself. I love the fast design process compared to architecture. You work with at least two collections at the same time and when one is over you are straight away thrown into the next one. I am also so lucky to have studied architecture while doing fashion, it gives me a different angle and perspective.

Run us through all the Jenny Grettve collections, what were the inspirations behind each of them?
My first collection that I showed last April was inspired by a chemistry teacher I had as a child. She was French, Mme Chat (Mrs Cat, that actually was her name) and she always dressed as the image of a French Mme. Suits and skirts, classic and with high heels. I wanted to make a collection that she would wear, but also something that I would wear myself.

My next collection was all about the material. Again it is a classic theme in the design, but all fabrics are “technical fabrics” normally used when making sports wear. They are wind and waterproof but still very easy to take care of. I liked the idea of mixing simple and classic lines with technology.

The collection I am about to release is again quite classic but with architectural pattern making. I have used fake fur and wonderful cashmere wool to create a luxurious feeling. I've also worked with jersey but in a more formal design and the result is a fantastic dress and a pair of pants that you can wear for work, evening or every day.

Picture Perfect: Let me into your world, Paulina

by The Dream Stalker
Hello there,
It feels like its been a few years since I last spoke to you (more like blogged at you) but I'm back after a week filled with stacks and stacks of books, many black pens, too many headache and exam dreams!

Its not over just but I have a few moments to actually catch my breath and do a bit of relaxing, letting off some steam! Gosh, I love having a blog space!

You have probably been wondering what all the pictures in between the writing, are about, here goes, a few months ago, I was invited to an event at Coco De Mer (yes, the sex shop!! I didn't know that until I arrived)  the event on a whole was awful [no naming and shaming will occur here *keep it moving -laughs*]

At the horribly hosted party, seems that in fashion there is a tradition of awful parties when you are new to la blogosphere, click here for a brief look at TCW's experience (Yes, I stalk her), I met a super talented photographer, Paulina Sury, whose work you have been viewing!!

I guess, Stuart Little's dad was right, there is always a silver lining. This feature or display of talent has been in the works for a very long time, and finally, I can leave you open mouthed by this pictures, even more amazing in real life. If you aren't impressed as you scroll down, then I don't know what to say or do about that!

For me, the gothic feel of all the pictures, show the reality of darkness but the inner beauty of that same film, expresses exactly how I interpret life, a bit of beauty within the sadness and darkness of the cruel world!
*Deep stuff*
However let me know what you think about Sury's work, I'll leave you to get lost in true art and beauty! Enjoy.

Through their lens: Dave K Piper

by The Dream Stalker
I love photographs, even though I don't participate in front of the camera much!

A picture tells a thousand stories, it captures the moment; a very unique moment, that is usually impossible to recreate, GOSH, some photographer do a bloody brilliant job at telling a tale with a picture, Dave K Piper is one of the photographers who I've gradually fallen for over the last few months (he shot the magazine cover that was featured here) so as per usual, I wanted to share!!

Stalking Models: Marin Daley-Hawkins

by The Dream Stalker
I'm back with the second episode of Stalking Models (I should really have called it Model Stalking but too late now) and I have literally been stalking, gosh I love a pretty face.

At Graduate Fashion Week, I saw Tantrum had a similar segment in their magazine, I was pretty upset but great minds think alike, I guess!! So here it is, my second stalking model piece.
Three words that perfectly describe you.............Confident, chilled and determined.

Her Story
I was scouted by Select on Oxford Street on my way home one evening. I’d been scouted before but the timing was just right and I got a really good vibe from this agency!
What are the best and worst bits about being a model?
The best thing is getting to meet some of the most passionate and inspirational people around. The worst is probably the waiting around on jobs and at castings – I’m impatient! It’s a great job but it takes a lot of time and effort to make it worthwhile.

Graduate Fashion Week: The Salford Story from the photographer's pit

by Hayley Kirton

Salford’s show was the last show of the day and, to be honest, I was feeling a little bit tired and in need of a sit down. So I was glad when, after the short and beautifully haunting film, Ahn Hoang’s collection contained a beautiful bit of sparkle that brought a bit of life to the catwalk!
Leanne Haggerty’s collection for kids hit me with some real “aww” factor! This cute collection reminded me of rainy days and jumping in puddles as a kid. I also think this is the first time I’ve photographed children on a catwalk – their relative height compared to usual models presented one or two challenges I didn’t expect.

Angela Ford’s floaty fabrics reminded me of long summer beach holidays. I love the hot pink detailing.

Graduate Fashion Week: The Northumbria Story from the photographer's pit

by Hayley Kirton

I love the Northumbria show! There’s nothing like a little bit of drama and theatre on the catwalk. Northumbria’s show features a black catwalk and a spot light, so, given the right angle, it sometimes looked like the models were in the middle of somewhere isolated and magical, rather than the middle of Earl’s Court. Unfortunately, from a photographer’s point of view, the spotlight makes it difficult to photograph – fun to watch, tricky to capture!

I really loved the light tailoring of Ellen Barne’s collection. There’s something that’s a little bit Bugsy Mallone about these clothes – it looks like workwear but much more fun.

Spotted: Graduate Fashion Week

by The Dream Stalker

*in the toilet*
Me: Excuse me
She: *looking confused* Yes?
Me: Can I take a picture of you? I really like your outfit
She: Okay but not in here
Me: *laughs* okay I'll go get my camera.

Talk about stalkerish! Thank you  for taking the pictures :)

Pushing Trends: Tribal Prints

by The Dream Stalker

Going back in time to Sunday the 5th of June, first day of Graduate Fashion Week, the last show of the day, University of Salford! As it was the last show of the day, I was pretty tired and hungry (the skinny cow over load obviously wasn't cutting it), and I had no intentions to pull out my notebook and take any notes, I was going to rely on my memory and my camera for this one (that's if I could even be bothered to take photos, thank goodness for Hayley then)

Dim lights and cue music; the show starts!
.............

Ester Ndongala was one of the 'new borns' as I now like to refer to them; one of the Salford graduates that really got my attention, maybe it was the bright colours or her screaming family (got to love a supportive family), but her collection was a good mix between tribal patterns and neutrality (very with the trends of AW but that seemed to be the order of GFW)

The multi coloured patterned maxi dress with ribbon detailed chest looked absolutely gorgeous on the model!

Ester Ndongala's sketches from Arts Threads

Last two pictures by Hayley Kirton.

Flaws: The bagginess of some of the clothes and the folded fan detail on two of the dresses, a bit too wild for me but all in all, a great collection.
Well Done, Ester.

Graduate Fashion Week: The Edinburgh Story from the photographer's pit

by Hayley Kirton

Second show of the day for the Lost In Talent team was Edinburgh’s. And my first standout outfit from the show has got to be this one from Laura De Barra’s collection. This just has Parisian chic written all over it.

Hayley's Stand out choice

Sarah Ho’s collection was another delight to watch – those bright playground colours looked so grown up with this wonderfully colour-blocked collection. This was one I wanted to dare to wear.

Another fun to photograph piece – this “1980s-meets-Cinderella” dress from Emma Clifton’s collection.
